Conversion of Old Fire Station site
to 14 flats in staines-upon-thames

old fire station SITE in staines-upon-thames

Mark Doodes Planning has prepared and submitted a planning application to develop land to the rear of the Old Town Hall in Staines-upon-Thames. The application seeks Listed Building Consent alongside full planning permission for the redevelopment of the site, while retaining the Fire Engine Shed. MDP has worked alongside Bubble Architects in the project's design.

This innovative project would restore and protect the future of the Old Fire Station. The proposed plan is to erect 14 new flats and convert the Old Fire Station on the site, in addition to adding a heritage information board and lockable cycle storage.

The site meets an identified need of deliverable housing, in a highly sustainable location. With the nearest road being the Market Square, the site is centrally located with excellent access to public transportation and employment and is within walking distance to local amenities and facilities. Also, the site is adjacent to the recently refurbished Memorial Gardens and has prominent views along the Thames Walk.

Located within the Staines Conservation Area, the irregularly shaped site contains the Grade II listed Fire Station Shed and is located to the rear of the Old Town Hall. These constraints and opportunities have been accurately reflected in our proposals.

On this occasion the application was not sucessful but discussions are underway to reevaluate the proposals, perhaps with a smaller scheme.
