barn conversion into a four-bedroom home in Corsham
MDP were contacted by a client following the purchase of the site at auction. The site already had a Class Q permission in place however this permission did not meet the client requirements. MDP coordinated and submitted a planning application to demolish the existing barn and to erect an extended barn-like family dwelling in its place, with a footprint 20% bigger than the existing Class Q permitted. The application also included and operational development element. Initially the application was refused by the Local Authority, with the location being cited as inaccessible to services and outside the settlement boundary. MDP used our experience and knowledge of the planning system to see this decision formally overturned by a Planning Inspector in August 2018 to secure Full Planning Permission. The site itself was largely featureless except, for a Dutch hay barn with grass and little other landscaping. The proposed dwelling was carefully designed to respond to the scale and massing of the originally consented barn conversion with the main difference being the addition of a two-storey element to the side. Following the permission the client has constructed a beautiful family home. |
