Local Planning Authorities (LPA) will consider a submission of drawings and supporting documents in order to give you an informal opinion about the likelihood of success of a prospective application. This is called Pre-Application Advice. 

Planning can be complicated and when projects are particularly subjective, this early engagement with the LPA can (but by no means always) give you the ability to negotiate the more complex elements of your proposal, getting an all-important early view of the degree to which the town hall planners will accept, or resist, your proposals. This process is known in the industry as "Front loading" and can, with the right approach, save you time and money in the long-run and inform your decisions about whether your project is feasible and if the submission of a full planning application would be worthwhile.
