REPLACEMENT DWELLING IN LITTLE CHALFONT
Mark Doodes Planning was appointed to prepare and submit a planning application for replacing an existing house with a five-bedroom home that better reflects the requirements of modern family life. The plans were approved in October 2017. The previous dwelling was a unnoteworthy 1920's two storey home in an area designated as having an elevated cluster value associated with the uniformity of similar dwellings. The new dwelling uses high quality modern architecture for a three-storey house of around 5000 square feet. The design evolved over an 18 month period with various pre-application meetings and a failed application. The design principle was to ensure the scheme appeared to be of a two-storey scale to match nearby homes (as can be seen above). Additionally, the new home is set back from a Listed Building opposite of it. This site is, as mentioned above, in the Little Chalfont is within an “Established Residential Area of Special Character”. The character of the local area is verdant with many mature and characterful trees, hedges, and defined by the gaps and spaces between buildings. As such the design needed to be senstive to it's setting whilst adding value to the site. |
